Camping Near the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina

The National Park Service campgrounds along the Parkway — high, cool and close to the overlooks — plus what to know about seasons, reservations and Helene closures.

Updated September 29, 2026

The Blue Ridge Parkway has campgrounds run by the National Park Service at intervals along its North Carolina section. They sit high in the mountains, which means cool nights, big views and short drives to the Parkway’s best-known overlooks and trails.

What to expect

  • Seasonal: most Parkway campgrounds open in spring and close in fall. Check opening dates with the National Park Service.
  • Simple sites: expect tent and RV sites with restrooms and drinking water rather than full hookups.
  • Reservations: Parkway campgrounds use Recreation.gov for reservable sites.

After Hurricane Helene

Sections of the Parkway and some campgrounds were closed after Hurricane Helene, and not all have reopened. Each campground page below shows the official status notice we have — always confirm with the National Park Service before you drive up.
